The Tulum City Council has announced the launch of a business management and financial inclusion training program for Mayan-speaking entrepreneurs and microentrepreneurs. The initiative aims to bridge the economic and knowledge gaps that have historically affected Indigenous communities.

In partnership with Nacional Financiera (NAFIN) and the Quintana Roo Secretariat of Economic Development, the program seeks to equip Mayan-speaking business owners with the skills they need to start, improve, and grow their businesses. The training will focus on topics such as basic administration, sales strategies, financing, savings, investment, and business formalization.

“This project responds to the need for economic inclusion and social justice in our community,” said President Diego Castañón. “We want every Mayan-speaking entrepreneur to have the same opportunities for success.”

The in-person training will be held at the Casa de la Cultura in Cobá on June 24 and 25, with bilingual facilitators providing accessible materials to ensure that knowledge effectively reaches those who need it most.

Tulum’s mayor emphasized that this initiative is part of a broader effort to build a more just and inclusive economy. “We are committed to creating an equitable and culturally respectful environment where all entrepreneurs can thrive,” he said.

The training program is seen as a significant step towards bridging the economic gap between Indigenous communities and mainstream society. By providing access to financial knowledge and management skills, Tulum aims to promote sustainable development and social cohesion in the region.
