The passage of tropical wave number 5 over the Yucatán Peninsula, combined with the entry of humid air from the Caribbean Sea, will bring a very hot day and heavy rain to most municipalities in Quintana Roo this Sunday, June 22, according to the National Meteorological Service.
Partly cloudy to cloudy skies are expected with intense rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, especially in the southern and central parts of the state. Wind gusts of up to 40 kilometers per hour are also expected, mainly in coastal areas, as well as waves between three and five feet.
In Cancún (Benito Juárez), the weather will be very hot, with temperatures up to 36 degrees Celsius and a wind chill of around 39°C. There will be scattered showers and strong easterly winds. A similar situation will occur in Lázaro Cárdenas, where the thermometer could reach 37 degrees Celsius.
For Isla Mujeres, partly cloudy skies and scattered showers are forecast, with temperatures reaching 34°C (94°F). In Cozumel, the sky will remain mostly clear, with highs of 33°C (90°F) and no significant rain, although winds of up to 35 km/h (22 mph) are expected.
Playa del Carmen and Tulum will experience cloudy skies with occasional heavy rain. Temperatures will range between 32 and 34°C (90 and 95°F), with a wind chill of up to 37°C (99°F). In the Mayan region, José María Morelos and Felipe Carrillo Puerto will also experience heavy rain and temperatures reaching 36°C (98°F).
In the southern part of the state, Othón P. Blanco (Chetumal) and Bacalar will experience cloudy weather with very heavy rain and thunderstorms. The high will be 34°C (94°F), but humidity could push wind chills to 37°C (98°F).
Puerto Morelos will experience similar conditions, with intermittent showers and a very hot atmosphere. Finally, the lunar phase will be a waning crescent with 10% visibility, and caution is recommended at sea due to moderate waves.
Authorities urge the public to stay informed through official media, take precautions against rain, and avoid prolonged sun exposure, especially between 12:00 and 16:00.
