The influence of Tropical Storm Erick continues to generate severe weather conditions across much of the country, particularly in the state of Guanajuato.
Although the cyclone has begun to weaken, the National Meteorological Service (SMN) warned that intense, sometimes torrential rains will persist in various regions, which could cause significant risks such as landslides, flooding, puddles, and rising river and stream levels.
According to the General Meteorological Forecast issued by the SMN for this Sunday, June 22, 2025, a day marked by showers with heavy rainfall (25 to 50 mm) is expected in Guanajuato.
Authorities have warned that, in addition to the precipitation, strong wind gusts could occur, capable of causing trees, branches, or poorly secured billboards to fall.
In the city of León, the sky will remain mostly cloudy throughout the day, with a low of 15°C and a high of 22°C. The chance of rain is 90%, indicating a high certainty that precipitation will continue throughout the day. This morning, moderate rain is expected and temperatures will hover around 17°C.
According to the detailed forecast, showers are expected to increase in intensity between 5 and 6 p.m., when thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain and partly cloudy skies are expected.
At night, conditions will remain humid, with moderate rain, overcast skies, and temperatures near 17°C. Winds will be from the southeast during the day, averaging 5 km/h.
San Francisco del Rincón: Risk of afternoon thunderstorms
The municipality of San Francisco del Rincón will experience a very similar climate to León, with mostly cloudy skies, temperatures between 16 and 23°C (60 and 73°F), and a 75% chance of rain. Moderate rain and temperatures around 17°C (62°F) were recorded this morning.
The heaviest rainfall will be concentrated during the afternoon and evening, especially between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM, a period when thundery showers are expected. The sky will remain partly cloudy during these hours, and temperatures will reach 21°C (69°F). At night, rain will continue at a moderate intensity. Northeast winds are forecast between 5 and 10 km/h (3 to 6 mph).
Silao: High probability of thunderstorms
In Silao, although the estimated rainfall accumulation is slightly lower—around 8 liters per square meter—the probability of precipitation remains high at 90%. A minimum temperature of 15°C and a maximum of 22°C are expected, with overcast skies for much of the day.
In the morning, the rain will be light, but an increase in intensity is expected between 5 and 8 p.m., with thunderstorms accompanied by partly cloudy skies. At night, thundery showers will continue, with temperatures dropping back to 17°C.
The wind will blow from the east and northeast, with a speed between 0 and 5 km/h, which could contribute to the accumulation of humidity in low-lying areas.
Recommendations for the Public
Given the persistent adverse weather conditions, local authorities and civil protection recommend the public:
Avoid crossing rivers or flooded areas.
Do not take shelter under trees during thunderstorms.
Secure light objects outdoors that could be carried by the wind.
Drive with caution, due to reduced visibility and the risk of skidding.
Stay tuned for official announcements from the National Meteorological Service (SMN) and state or municipal Civil Protection.
The evolution of Tropical Storm Erick will continue to be closely monitored by the National Meteorological Service. The system is expected to continue weakening in the coming hours; however, its broad circulation continues to cause significant rains in much of the Bajío region and other regions of the country.
