User Mayela García shared the moment on her account, adding a comical tone to the incident. In the recording, she can be heard saying: “I’m waiting for the bus and look what I found, I found a juancho, look at this! Yes, it’s alive, don’t even start, should I take it to the UAT?” referring to the Autonomous University of Tamaulipas.

The clip shows the crocodile lying peacefully on a step, apparently calm and showing no signs of aggression. The young woman managed to stay safe and left the scene without incident.

Reactions quickly filled the video’s comments, highlighting users’ sense of humor.

“Take it and play ‘bring weird things to the university’ with your friends,” one commented. Another wrote: “The real ‘tell me you’re from Tampico without telling me you’re from Tampico… HAHA’.” There were also jokes about student life: “It’s my friend, he’s asleep, he was up all night handing in homework.” They even imagined the crocodile waiting its turn: “Juancho: Come on, I’m waiting for the bus too.”

Beyond the jokes, some internet users emphasized the importance of reporting these types of sightings to the appropriate authorities, such as Civil Protection or environmental agencies, to protect both people and animals.

It’s worth mentioning that sightings like this are not uncommon in southern Tamaulipas, especially during the rainy season. During these times, the levels of water bodies like Laguna del Carpintero often rise, causing crocodiles to abandon their natural habitat in search of new habitats.

Tampico is a city accustomed to living with this species, although the risks remain. The unusual video has once again placed it at the center of digital conversation, where so-called “juancho sightings” have become part of the region’s urban folklore.
