In 2025, mental health has emerged as a critical issue, reflected in epidemiological figures showing a worrying increase in cases of depression and suicide attempts.

During week 23, 3,065 new cases of depression were recorded, bringing the total to 66,589 cases so far this year.

This increase highlights the need to implement effective strategies for the prevention and treatment of mental disorders, which affect a growing number of people.

Suicide attempts have also shown a significant increase. In the same week, 82 new cases of intentional self-harm were documented, bringing the total to 1,909 cases in 2025.

These figures are a wake-up call for authorities and society at large, underscoring the importance of creating a supportive and understanding environment for those facing these difficult situations.

Additionally, 15 new cases of intentional self-inflicted injuries by hanging, strangulation, or suffocation were recorded, bringing the total to 350 cases this year.

These types of injuries are particularly concerning due to their severity and the devastating impact they have on families and communities. Suicide prevention must be a priority in public health policies, with a focus on education and access to mental health services.
