The Access Interchange to the Port of Veracruz, being built by the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT), will benefit more than 700,000 residents of the municipalities of Veracruz, Medellín, Jamapa, and Boca del Río, the agency reported.
This project is located on Federal Highway 140 Xalapa–Veracruz, between kilometers 93+350 and 95+320, considered the second busiest road in the state, currently registering a daily vehicle capacity of more than 34,000 vehicles (TDPA).
Its modernization will reduce access and travel times by up to 25 minutes, directly benefiting those who use this avenue daily to go to work, study, transport goods, or access services.
It consists of 1,970 meters in length, an 873-meter bridge-like structure, and two access points: Access A (Xalapa-Veracruz), 458 meters long, and Access B (Veracruz-Xalapa), 640 meters long.
Both access points will be built with mechanically stabilized walls and an average slope of 4%, all designed to improve traffic flow and ensure user safety.
Under the vehicular overpass (VOS), the necessary turnarounds, loops, and turns will be provided to eliminate bottlenecks at the intersection with the port boulevard (km 13.5).
Furthermore, this project—which will contribute to faster, safer, and more efficient traffic—is strategically integrated with Highway Corridors No. 5 (Veracruz–Monterrey with a branch to Matamoros) and No. 13 (Acapulco–Veracruz), which will boost regional connectivity and the state’s logistical development.
During its construction, more than 16,000 direct and indirect jobs will be created.
The project is being carried out in full coordination with state and municipal authorities and the business sector, ensuring that work progresses in an orderly manner without compromising the mobility or logistics of the economic corridor.
