The Bisbee’s Los Cabos sport fishing tournament, which generated more than 50 million pesos in revenue, announced the signing of an official partnership with Fat Tuna Beer on its 45th anniversary.
“It was founded in 1981 by the late Bob Bisbee and his son, Wayne Bisbee, a Texas businessman, who is currently in charge of the tournaments,” said Clicerio Mercado, Bisbee’s tournament coordinator.
Bisbee’s began with just six boats and a $10,000 prize pool, and has since grown into a multimillion-dollar sport fishing competition.
The winner was a 24.5-kilogram bass caught by Oscar Verdugo from the boat “El Regalo.”
Bisbee’s offers a series of tournaments, the East Cape Offshore, with a family and community atmosphere, held annually in Buenavista from July 28 to August 2. Los Cabos Offshore, known as the little Bisbee’s, with massive prizes, will be held from October 13-18, 2025.
The famous Black & Blue Tournament is the main event, with accumulated purses exceeding $4 million. It runs from October 22-24.
For 44 years, it has provided economic benefits to the owners and workers of the boats participating in the tournament, to the hotels where the participants stay, to their friends and families who accompany them, to the transportation they use, to restaurants, to the meat dealers, among others.
In addition, the meat of the captured species is donated to charities such as Casa Hogar Pata, DIF, among others.
Craig Douglas, founder of Fat Tuna Brewery, commented that this company was founded in 2021 in San José del Cabo, after the pandemic, by a team of visionaries from Mexico and the United States.
“It required a $3 million investment to build a state-of-the-art brewery, and they hired a nationally renowned master brewer from Querétaro,” said Craig Douglas.
Luis Valencia Gallardo, director of The Kitcher Co., said that he and Bisbee’s and Fat Tuna Brewery have formed a five-year partnership, which is designed not only to promote the destination of Los Cabos, but also the tournament itself.
“Being a Mexican company is good for the country because the resources generated stay here, and it also creates more than 14 direct jobs and 25 indirect jobs,” said Luis Valencia.
