Nuevo León’s traditional regional dance festival, the “Mitote Folklórico,” will bring together 1,500 dancers from 42 groups for more than a week of activities.
The event will begin this Saturday, August 2, at 6:00 PM, with a grand parade featuring all the dancers. The procession will depart from the LABNL Esplanade and will pass through the main streets of the city center until it reaches the Teatro de la Ciudad.
The opening ceremony will take place on the venue’s Open-Air Stage, where representatives from the 42 companies will perform “Huapango Lorena” at 7:00 PM.
During the week, there will be additional performances in that same area, with free admission, while performances in the Great Hall will cost 150 pesos, with tickets available one hour before each performance.
The “Mitote Folklórico” has been organized annually by Conarte since 1992. Its founding teachers were Silvia Gil, Patricia Guerrero, and the late Marcos Trinidad and Jaime Guerrero.
The activities, announced yesterday by Ricardo Marcos, the organization’s technical secretary, will conclude on Sunday the 10th at 6:00 p.m. with the show “Zapatéllele!”, featuring 1,600 dancers from 50 groups.
The repertoire will include pieces such as “El Cerro de La Silla,” “La Grulla,” “El Pávido Návido,” and the polka “Evangelina.”
“I can assure you that it is the largest folkloric festival in the state, and perhaps the largest in all of northern Mexico,” said Eloísa Hernández, representative of the Raíces group.
“All the groups prepare for a full year to present their best.”
