Agents from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) arrested Ariadne Vázquez Canul, former private secretary to former mayor Lili Campos Miranda, and Jorge Zavaleta, former director of contentious affairs in that administration, for misuse of power and abuse of authority.

A judge issued arrest warrants against both former officials for their alleged role in the diversion of land allocations in Playa del Carmen, in the Cristo Rey neighborhood. Land allocations were supposed to be awarded to police officers or citizen security guards during Mauricio Góngora’s three-year term, but were instead illegally given to other individuals.

Both detainees were taken by Investigative Police officers to court to be brought before a supervisory judge, who ordered their detention at the Municipal Detention Center until their arraignment hearing.

Sources indicate that these former officials were allegedly the ones who facilitated this land theft, which could involve more people.

It is worth noting that Ariadne Vázquez Canul was reported earlier this year by an elderly couple who had received a plot of land in Cristo Rey in 2016.

This couple paid property taxes for this lot every year, but in January of this year, when they went to the Municipal Palace to complete this procedure, they discovered that it was already in the name of this former official, who had allegedly modified the property registry to obtain the title. The complaint regarding this incident was filed under file FGE/QROO/SOL/01/784/2025.

A month later, another citizen similarly discovered that a plot of land in the name of his late father had been awarded to Jorge Zabaleta Pellat.

According to this complainant, there are at least 30 other people in this same situation.
