The project, led by urban artist Demetrio Estrella, is much more than a simple mural: it is a symbol of community, hope, and love for the environment.
With the central phrase “Where there is nature, there is peace,” the mural captures the essence of this space, considered a vital lung for the neighborhood and a meeting point for dozens of families.
A message of peace and nature
Painted on two walls, the mural offers two complementary scenes.
On one side, the sea merges with the mountains, in a landscape that represents the natural wealth of Sinaloa. Two child figures—a boy and a girl—observe this calm setting, connecting the viewer’s gaze with the value of preserving what surrounds us.
On the other wall, the image of a child holding a roller gives the illusion of painting the entire mural. It is an interactive scene, designed so that whoever stands in that position feels part of the creative process. It is part of the Vamos Pintando initiative.
Children and adolescents enthusiastically joined in the creation of the mural. For many, it was an opportunity to actively participate in improving their surroundings.
“It’s a way of saying that the park isn’t abandoned, that we’re still here fighting for it,” says Noé Guevara, president of the neighborhood committee, who has promoted initiatives in the park for more than five years.
Although the committee’s work hasn’t been easy, its members—between five and six people—have managed improvements such as cleaning, lighting, and the mural, thanks to the support of the Parques Alegres (IAP) organization. They are also in the process of securing a water supply to sustain the trees during the extreme heat.
The park, which has three pergolas and is well attended by children and families, is a space full of life. And now, thanks to the art created by visual artist Demetrio Estrella, it is also a canvas for citizen participation.
Because where there is nature, there is peace. But where there is community, there is also hope.
