The Chinese firm BYD reported that during the first half of 2025, it sold more than 80,000 units in the Mexican market, making it the fourth most successful automotive brand in our country, behind Nissan, General Motors, and Volkswagen.
“We are committed to offering cars that integrate technology and innovation, following the highest quality standards. We have consolidated a solid network of dealers and expert advisors who help us bring our hybrid and electric mobility offering to new consumers,” said Jorge Vallejo, General Manager of BYD Mexico.
The brand is experiencing its second full year of sales in our market, having arrived nationally in March 2023, and has been consolidating a dealer network that currently has 80 points of sale, with expansion plans in the coming months.
BYD is the only automotive firm in the country with a full electrified lineup, with plug-in hybrid (PHEV) or 100% electric vehicles, presenting an aggressive pricing strategy and an interest rate of up to 7.88% for certain models.
However, since it does not officially report these sales, it is not included in the monthly INEGI reports, and therefore is not included in the ranking presented by AMIA. Nissan remains at the top for another month with 142,722 units during the first six months of 2025. It is followed by General Motors (Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac, and GMC) with 116,838, and Volkswagen (SEAT, Cupra, Audi, Bentley, VW, and Porsche) with 97,512. BYD would fall into fourth place.
In 2024, the Chinese firm reported sales of just over 40,000 units, setting a target of 80,000 sales for this year. This means it reached that mark in six months and will aim for a year-end that continues to deliver historic numbers in our market.
