Not even a year after its inauguration, Hotel Mundo Maya Tulum, managed by the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena), is infested with a borer beetle infestation, which, it is acknowledged, represents an imminent risk of structural collapse, endangering the safety of guests and public property.

Tender IA-07-H0C-007H0C999-N-109-2025, published on the Compras MX platform, indicates that this pest is already active in the wooden structures, as well as in the ceilings, beams, and furniture, “which compromises the stability of the property.”

“Recent technical inspections detected an active infestation in wooden structures, including ceilings, beams, and furnishings, compromising the building’s stability. The wood-boring beetle causes severe internal damage that progresses rapidly and is difficult to detect with the naked eye.

“The infestation represents an imminent risk of structural collapse, endangering the safety of users and public property.”

It is indicated that for these reasons, the immediate intervention of trained personnel is required to contain and eradicate common pests in the region, especially the wood-boring beetle, and thus ensure the safe operation of the facility.

Four companies are seeking to win this bid: Grupo Argent is offering to perform this service for 5.9 million pesos; KTR Inv, for just over 4 million 26 thousand pesos; Scent Jittal, for 4 million 49 thousand pesos; and E-Templum would perform it for 3.3 million pesos.

The award for this bid will be announced on August 19th through a public service announcement. the Compras MX platform.

Specialists

On page eight, it is indicated that to provide this fumigation service, a certified biologist or certified natural resource manager with experience in pest control, as well as two pest control technicians, will be required.

“This experience must be accredited with a training certificate or equivalent, endorsed by a certified training agent, which must be attached to the proposal. The personnel presented in the technical proposal must be the same as those present for the provision of the service.”

The bidder agrees that the pesticides applied must be registered in the Pesticide Catalog of the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) and must be registered with the Inter-Ministerial Commission for the Control of the Process and Use of Pesticides and Toxic Substances (Cicoplafest) and must not have expired. This is to guarantee the hotel that the products used for fumigation are not harmful to health or cause harm to the environment.

Confidentiality

On page 12, it is stated that the data obtained from fumigation and pest control are exclusively for internal use by the hotel, including photographic files. Therefore, “the bidder must submit a letterhead and sign, agreeing not to use the information, images, or photographs for purposes other than the service covered by the contract.”
