With an average of 9,270 tourists per day, the island of Cozumel is preparing to welcome 16 cruise ships this week, with an estimated total of 64,892 passengers, according to the maximum capacity of the vessels that will dock at the various piers.
Municipal President José Luis Chacón emphasized that the strength of cruise tourism significantly boosts the local economy and strengthens the island’s position as a leading destination in the Mexican Caribbean. “Cozumel is a world leader in the cruise industry, and we will continue working in coordination with shipping companies, entrepreneurs, and tourism service providers to ensure this activity continues to generate well-being for Cozumel families,” he stated.
In this regard, the Deputy Director of Tourism, José Elías Farah, highlighted that, according to the arrival schedule for week 34 of the year, which runs from August 18 to 24, the estimated economic impact is close to $5.9 million, reaffirming Cozumel’s status as one of the most important cruise ship tourist ports in the Americas and the world.
The docking schedule begins on Monday, August 18, with four ocean liners bringing 14,682 passengers; on Tuesday, August 19, two floating hotels will arrive with 5,126 visitors, while on Wednesday, August 20, two more large-capacity ships will welcome 11,224 tourists.
