The Mundo Maya Tulum hotel, part of the Maya Train, is in danger due to the presence of the wood-boring beetle, which could cause the collapse of its structure, jeopardizing the safety of guests and public property.
The hotel opened less than a year ago and is managed by the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena). Therefore, they issued a tender for IA-07-H0C-007H0C999-N-109-2025, published on the Compras MX platform. It states that this pest “is active in the wooden structures, as well as in ceilings, beams, and furniture, compromising the stability of the building.”
The hotel adds that “recent technical inspections detected an active infestation in wooden structures, including ceilings, beams, and furniture, which compromises the stability of the building. The wood-boring beetle causes severe internal damage that progresses rapidly and is difficult to detect with the naked eye.”
The company selected to perform the pest control work will require a certified biologist or a certified natural resource manager with experience in pest control, as well as two pest control technicians.
“This experience must be accredited with a training certificate or equivalent, endorsed by a certified training agent, which must be attached to the proposal. The personnel presented in the technical proposal must be the same ones who provide the service,” the document states, according to El Universal.
It was announced in April that the Maya Train hotels would receive government subsidies until 2027, when they estimate they will reach a break-even point, as they face challenges in promotion, location, and transportation. Likewise, they will seek an identity for these hotels without separating them from the train brand.
