The young woman recounted alleged abuse during her stay at Doctors Hospital, where she was held for more than 30 hours after being discharged.
A public complaint against a private hospital in Monterrey, Nuevo León, has sparked outrage on social media.
A young woman identified as Alena Khar recounted the alleged abuse she suffered during her stay at Doctors Hospital, where she claimed she was held for more than 30 hours after being discharged and where they attempted to charge her more than six thousand pesos for a box of Pepto Bismol.
According to her testimony, Alena explained that she was notified of her discharge on Saturday, August 16, at 10:00 a.m., but was unable to leave until the next day due to administrative delays.
According to her complaint, the hospital attempted to charge her for an extra stay that she was not entitled to, and among the charges was a medication with an exorbitant cost.
“I was discharged at 10:00 a.m. Today, Sunday, I’m still here. After 28 hours, they haven’t been able to process my discharge due to internal processes (…) They’re charging me one more night, a box of Pepto Bismol for 6,600 pesos,” she stated, showing a receipt.
In other videos shared on her Instagram account, the patient detailed various incidents during her hospitalization. Among them, she recounted that she was given an incorrect injection and that it took two days before they realized the medication wasn’t entering her vein correctly, forcing them to change the catheter.
The worst moment came while she was waiting to be discharged, when she began to experience an allergic reaction that caused hives and swelling on her lips and extremities. She stated that the nurses refused to administer treatment because her account was already closed. “I had to beg them for 40 minutes to give me something because they didn’t want to,” she complained.
Alena also pointed out administrative irregularities, such as the alleged forgery of her signature on at least two documents within the nursing area. “It was noticeable that they forged it before putting it on the document,” she commented.
Finally, after a 30-hour wait, she was able to leave the hospital thanks to the intervention of her insurance agent, who managed to get the nearly 7,000 pesos bill for the box of Pepto Bismol canceled. The case has sparked widespread debate on social media about the costs and care provided in private hospitals in Mexico.
