Before the end of this year, 1,000 kilometers of state highways will be reconstructed due to their poor condition, stated Bernhard Rehn, head of the Ministry of Urban Development, Mobility, and Public Works (Sedumop).
He reported that part of the process and the studies necessary to understand the engineering of the road infrastructure had to be carried out against the clock and without specific resources for this purpose. Subsequently, they also worked to address the damage caused by the constant movement of heavy machinery and trucks transporting landfill material.
For this reason, they decided to support the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT) and the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena) in the repairs of federal highways, which also needed prompt attention due to the number of accidents being reported on highways such as Highway 180, Highway 186, and others.
Regarding the complaints published by La Jornada Maya in previous editions, such as the Candelaria–Pejelagarto highway in the municipality of Candelaria, or the Villa de Guadalupe–Nayarit de Castellot highway in Champotón, the official stated that at least six tenders will be issued in September for these and other sections in various municipalities.
Highways in Hopelchén, Campeche, and Carmen are also being considered in this first round of bidding, covering at least 1,000 kilometers. This figure is projected to double by 2026, due to the numerous complaints received.
He noted that Sedumop has carried out work that is not its responsibility, including intervention programs for patching potholes in some cities. He cited Campeche as an example, where the deterioration of streets and avenues had exceeded the capacity of municipal administrations, and complaints and requests to the state government were repeated.
Among the state highways that stand out are the Dzibalchén to Xpujil road, between Hopelchén and Calakmul; the Alfredo V. Bonfil to Dzibalchén road, in Campeche and Hopelchén; the aforementioned roads in Champotón and Candelaria; and other roads that will be given priority due to the use of these roads by agricultural producers to transport their crops.
For this purpose, he highlighted that approximately 600 million pesos will be available, authorized by the governor of Campeche, Layda Sansores, through the Secretariat of Administration and Finance (Seafin), as part of the state’s road infrastructure rehabilitation plan.
Finally, he called on residents to take precautions and drive with caution, as there are areas without internet access for posting notices on social media, so information must be shared through municipal authorities. He also asked for patience so that they can soon enjoy roads in good condition.
