Figures from INEGI’s National Survey of Occupation and Employment (ENOE) reveal that, in the second quarter of 2025, San Luis Potosí faces an increase in unemployment, informality, and underemployment compared to the same period last year. According to the report, the unemployment rate in the state rose to 3.7% of the Economically Active Population (EAP), compared to 2.6% in 2024. This equates to 47,789 unemployed people, or more than 12,000 additional workers compared to the previous year. Informality also saw a significant increase, rising from 53.6% to 56.7% of the EAP, representing an increase of more than three percentage points.
Regarding underemployment, the indicator rose from 8.0% in 2024 to 10.5% in the second quarter of this year, reflecting that more people are working fewer hours than they need or desire. The total number of employed people also decreased: in 2024, there were 1,309,248, while in 2025 the figure dropped to 1,231,029. The ENOE emphasizes that the metropolitan area of San Luis Potosí reached the highest unemployment rate in the country, at 5.1%, equaling Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche. In contrast, in the same period in 2024, the local figure was 3.6%.
