Shortly after 1:10 p.m. this Monday, September 1, a demonstration began on Federal Highway 200, near the vehicle inspection center, causing widespread traffic and transportation chaos in Puerto Vallarta.
It began only in the southbound and northbound lanes, but minutes later the group took over the center lanes and moved a few meters north. By 1:30 p.m., it had already blocked both directions of this main thoroughfare, the most important in Puerto Vallarta, at the highway entrance.
Approximately 40 people are blocking all four lanes of the highway, demanding the elimination of vehicle inspections, improvements to city streets, access to drinking water, and, in some cases, the recall of Mayor Luis Munguía González.
Drivers are advised to take precautions, as it is unknown how long the blockade will last.
Dozens of people, including tourists and passengers getting off city buses, could be seen along the road. Under the strong sun, they decided to walk to their destination.
Stranded motorists from north to south made a return trip to try to escape the congestion, or at least find another route.
