The National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami reported that a low-pressure area associated with a tropical wave, located west-southwest of the Cape Verde Islands, presents favorable conditions for tropical cyclone development in the coming days.

The agency increased the probability of cyclone development to 50% in the next 48 hours and maintains its seven-day formation forecast at 80%.

According to the report, the system is located approximately 5,815 kilometers east of the coast of Quintana Roo and is moving west-northwest at a speed of between 8 and 16 kilometers per hour. If its evolution continues, it is expected to intensify into a tropical cyclone later this week or over the weekend.

Meteorological authorities reminded everyone that the 2025 hurricane season is in an active phase, so the public is advised to stay informed exclusively through official sources and heed the instructions of Civil Protection.

Due to the forecast of heavy rains resulting from Hurricane Lorena, the Sonora government announced the suspension of classes at all educational levels in the state starting in the afternoon on Wednesday, September 3, and continuing through Friday, September 5.
