In the context of the commemoration of the National Day of Indigenous Women, celebrated this September 5, the Nayarit State Congress recognized four outstanding women from the indigenous communities.
In his message, the President of the Legislative Branch, Salvador Castañeda Rangel, stated that beyond recognition, spaces for political, social, and economic life must be opened.
“We are strengthening the initiative that Dr. Claudia sent to the Senate. It was approved in favor of the participation of indigenous peoples, but it emphasizes the participation of women, not only in the recognition of their identity, their culture, and how much they have done to preserve that identity, but also their right to land, political participation, and economic life—it goes far beyond recognition,” he emphasized.
The 2025 awardees are:
- Fidencia de Jesús Juárez, originally from Santa Cruz de Acaponeta, Nayarit – a Mexican woman who has preserved her pride, native language, and the traditions of her people. She works with handmade crafts such as yarn bags and beaded items.
- Cindy Elizabeth Chávez Silverio, a Nayeri woman originally from the municipality of Rosamorada, Nayarit – a teacher by profession and a community leader committed to defending the rights of Indigenous women.
