Chiapas Undersecretary of Tourism Promotion, Zita Rousarova Hegrova, was rescued from the Grijalva River after allegedly jumping off the Belisario Domínguez Bridge in Chiapa de Corzo. The incident occurred when the official asked a taxi driver to stop halfway across the bridge so she could jump off and jump from a height of approximately 35 meters.
According to witnesses and social media posts, the official was seen in the river pleading for help, until a boatman managed to pull her out of the water. She was later taken to the Gilberto Gómez Maza Regional Hospital, where she was admitted in critical condition.
Some unconfirmed reports suggested that the Chiapas public servant may have died hours later, although no authority has confirmed this.
Prosecutor Jorge Luis Llaven Abarca reported that the official, originally from the Czech Republic, remains under medical care and that her condition was reported as stable in the latest medical report. He indicated that the Chiapas Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation to clarify what happened, although no statement has yet been received from the victim.
Why was the Chiapas government official criticized?
The incident occurred one day after Zita Rousarova received criticism on social media for taking a trip on a private jet, which users considered contrary to the austerity policies of the state and federal governments. Information also circulated about trips to Cancún and Monterrey, intensifying the controversy surrounding her administration.
The Chiapas Tourism Secretariat has not issued an official statement while the investigation continues. The prosecutor emphasized that more information is expected as the undersecretary’s health condition evolves, which will clarify whether it was an accident or a suicide attempt.
Since her appointment, Zita Rousarova has faced questions about her limited Spanish and her experience in tourism promotion. Despite this, he held a key position in promoting tourism in Chiapas.
