The Yucatán State Government’s Ministry of Education (Segey) announced that classes will be suspended this Friday, October 31, at all educational institutions in the state, from preschool through secondary school, in observance of the Day of the Dead celebrations.

The announcement was made in an official statement, supported by Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena, who indicated that the measure aims to strengthen family bonds and promote a connection to Yucatecan traditions, especially those related to Janal Pixán, one of the most representative expressions of the state’s cultural identity.

The suspension also applies to Education Support and Assistance Personnel, and administrative and academic activities will resume on Monday, November 3, at the usual time.

“This Friday, October 31, school activities will be suspended at all schools in Yucatán, including for support and administrative staff, in response to a request from the education sector, with the aim of strengthening family time and promoting a connection to Yucatecan traditions,” the government announced.

This will allow the school community to participate in the altars, processions, and other traditional activities held during these days commemorating the Day of the Dead.
