This Thursday, the Sinaloa Attorney General’s Office reported the rescue of 28 people at sea: 27 minors and one 18-year-old.
In a brief statement, the Attorney General’s Office reported that the individuals were placed under the care of the Regional Deputy Attorney General’s Office for the Northern Zone, with the support of the National System for the Comprehensive Protection of Children and Adolescents, to provide them with care and protection.
The authorities reported that the rescued youths were from Chiapas.
In detail, the Spanish newspaper El País reported that the young people were rescued by the Navy from a ship bound for the port of Topolobampo, in northern Sinaloa. The vessel intended to cross the Gulf of California.
The youths were taken to a shelter in the municipality of Ahome to begin the identification process and contact their families.
According to the report, authorities detected a cargo ship carrying the minors that was lingering in the port area without a “defined destination and making suspicious maneuvers.”
The minors, aged between 14 and 17, along with the 18-year-old, were rescued by the Navy and then given emergency medical examinations, although no details of the discovery or the specific situation in which they were found have been released.
