Cozumel Island, one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations and a leader in the cruise industry, is preparing to receive more than 20 cruise ships during the week of October 27 to November 2. This massive influx of luxury vessels could generate significant economic benefits for local businesses, effectively ending the off-season.
The number of these “floating hotels” arriving in a single week speaks volumes about the island’s appeal as a tourist destination for cruise enthusiasts.
Currently, Cozumel offers a wide range of tourist activities, such as diving in one of the world’s largest coral reefs, visiting natural parks, and exploring the rich Mayan culture.
According to Miguel Alonso Marrufo, municipal coordinator of APIQROO (the Quintana Roo Port Authority), the arrival of cruise ships to Cozumel is estimated to reach approximately 1,285 vessels by the end of the year, a figure similar to last year’s.
According to the Quintana Roo Port Authority (Apiqroo), the cruise ship arrival schedule for this week includes ships from various cruise lines, such as: Norwegian Escape, Disney Escape, Carnival Breeze, Icon of the Seas, Enchantment of the Seas, Harmony of the Seas, Emerald Princess, Carnival Legend, Grandeur of the Seas, Carnival Jubilee, and Regal Princess, among others.
In September, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) annulled the environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the fourth pier project on the island of Cozumel, Quintana Roo, and announced a new evaluation.
