Trump says he would authorize attacks on cartels in our country: “I’m not happy with Mexico”

President Donald Trump indicated he would authorize a U.S. attack on Mexican soil against drug cartels if necessary; he asserted he would do “whatever it takes to stop drugs,” and referred to the violence that shook the nation’s capital this past weekend during protests:

“I saw Mexico City this weekend, and there are a lot of very serious problems there.”

Amid U.S. airstrikes in the Caribbean and the Pacific against boats that Washington claims are transporting drugs, the president was questioned by reporters in the Oval Office about his offensive against drug trafficking.

Asked if he would approve a U.S. anti-drug operation in Mexico, the Republican responded: “Would I launch attacks in Mexico to stop drugs? That’s fine with me. Whatever it takes to stop drugs.”

“I didn’t say I would do it, but I would be proud to do it. Because we’re going to save millions of lives by doing it,” he emphasized.

Trump has criticized Mexico for not doing enough against drug cartels.

The Republican has also drastically increased the number of US forces in the Caribbean, arguing that it is necessary to confront drug traffickers based in several Latin American countries, including Venezuela and Mexico.

Trump mentioned that, if necessary, the United States could take action against drug cartels in Mexico. He noted that drug trafficking routes by sea have already been reduced and stated that the locations of the drug lords’ main operational points are known.

The US president emphasized that the loss of life in the US due to drugs is significant and compared the situation to a war, insisting that measures will be taken to curb drug trafficking.

During the question-and-answer session, Trump stated, “I’m not happy with Mexico.” He indicated that Mexican authorities are aware of his stance on the fight against drug trafficking and emphasized that the problems related to drug trafficking are “very serious.”
