Employees of the Emporio Hotel, affiliated with the Confederation of Mexican Workers (CTM), declared a strike today demanding a review of their collective bargaining agreement.
The union members placed the red and black flag at the entrance to the hotel lobby at 3:00 p.m. this Sunday. The hotel is located in Hotel Zone I of Ixtapa.
The demands of the 140 striking workers include a 30 percent salary increase, 900 pesos in food vouchers, and a 60-day profit-sharing bonus, among other benefits.
This package of demands is part of the union’s proposals for the new collective bargaining agreement, which is scheduled to take effect in 2026. The employees indicated that they have not yet received any satisfactory response from the company.
The Emporio employees belong to Section 99 of the CTM-affiliated Union of Workers of the Hotel, Restaurant, and Related Industries of the Mexican Republic.
The sectional general secretary, José Francisco Castro Reyes, led the outbreak of the movement, in the presence of court officials from the Labor Court based in Zihuatanejo.
