During the December holiday season, Oaxaca is poised to close the year with a positive balance in tourism. The state’s Tourism Secretariat (Sectur Oaxaca) estimates that from December 19, 2025, to January 11, 2026, the main tourist destinations—Oaxaca City, Huatulco Bays, and Puerto Escondido—will generate an economic impact of approximately 1.643 billion pesos.

According to projections, around 341,445 visitors are expected during this period, which would allow for an average hotel occupancy rate of 71.13 percent in these three areas. Oaxaca City is expected to receive approximately 112,955 tourists, with an estimated hotel occupancy rate of 65.66 percent and an economic impact of approximately 479 million pesos.

In the case of Huatulco Bays, the highest influx is expected, with 122,957 visitors and a hotel occupancy rate of 81.75 percent, representing revenues of 839 million pesos. Puerto Escondido, for its part, could receive 105,533 people, reach an occupancy rate of 66.18 percent, and generate revenues of approximately 325 million pesos.

The Oaxaca Tourism Secretariat (Sectur Oaxaca) indicated that these results are the product of ongoing tourism promotion efforts and coordination with the various destinations in the state, with the goal of fostering a positive end to the year and continuing to strengthen tourism as one of the state’s main economic drivers.
