A Bengal tiger specimen was seized during an operation led by agents of the Attorney General’s Office at a property located in the municipality of Coatzintla, in the northern part of the state of Veracruz.

The officers arrived at the property, located in the Ruiz Cortines neighborhood of the aforementioned municipality, to execute a search warrant stemming from an investigation into crimes against biodiversity.

The property and the seized animal were placed at the disposal of the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office, which is continuing with the legal proceedings to resolve these events.

The large feline was taken into custody by the Federal Attorney General’s Office for Environmental Protection, the agency responsible for its care.

In addition to personnel from the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), members of the National Defense Secretariat, the National Guard, and the State Police participated in the operation, providing perimeter security.

“The operation was carried out by agents of the Federal Ministerial Police (PFM), in coordination with experts from the Federal Forensic Center (CFPF), both part of the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC), who secured a Bengal tiger inside the property,” the FGR stated.

Coatzintla is located in the northern region of Veracruz, where incidents of insecurity and the presence of organized crime are frequently reported.

Also in Veracruz, last year, a crocodile and a boa constrictor were stolen from the Miguel Ángel de Quevedo Zoological and Botanical Park in the port city of Veracruz.

Furthermore, sightings of exotic animals, ranging from felines to reptiles and birds, have been reported in exclusive residential developments in various municipalities of the state, without any official statement from the authorities.
