At least two serious accidents partially closed the Mexico-Querétaro highway at kilometers 68 and 50, involving at least two semi-trucks, about six cars, a passenger bus, and a National Guard patrol vehicle.
The injured were treated at the scenes by CAPUFE (Federal Roads and Bridges) personnel.
What is known about the incident?
The first accident occurred in the afternoon at kilometer 50, heading towards Mexico City, near the Coyotepec pedestrian bridge, where a semi-truck was unable to brake in time and hit a compact car, which in turn crashed into the back of an intercity bus; two other vehicles were also involved in the impact.
Of the vehicles involved, a white compact car was almost completely destroyed in its front and rear, as it came to rest between the semi-truck and the intercity bus.
At least three people were injured and received on-site treatment from CAPUFE (Federal Roads and Bridges Agency) and the National Guard Highway Division.
Traffic was completely closed due to the removal of the five vehicles involved in the accident, which is believed to have been caused by excessive speed and wet pavement from recent rain.
Another traffic accident occurred on the same highway, but in the direction of Querétaro. At kilometer 68, a semi-trailer truck collided with two cars and a National Guard patrol vehicle. The truck partially overturned on the left side of the road, with the cab coming to rest on the shoulder.
In this accident, injuries were also reported, and the injured were treated at the scene. However, the semi-trailer truck was blocking two lanes, causing a long traffic jam near Tepeji del Río and Jilotepec, in the industrial area.
The National Guard, Highway Division and Capufe authorities are asking all users of the Mexico-Queretaro highway to take extreme precautions, whether heading south or north, because this afternoon it is raining in the area and the pavement is wet.
