The Mayor of Mérida, Cecilia Patrón Laviada, inaugurated the “Los Héroes VI” Recreational Park, a space that marks a turning point in the city’s urban infrastructure by becoming the first public park with a coworking area and high-end connectivity.
This new park represents an innovative project that seeks to reduce the digital and social divide by offering free internet 24 hours a day, with speeds of up to 10 megabits per second, allowing citizens to carry out work, academic, and recreational activities in an accessible and modern environment.
During the event, the Mayor emphasized that this space is the result of coordinated work between the government, private sector, and citizens, having been designed taking into account the needs expressed by the residents of the neighborhood.

“This park is an example of how we can work together to create spaces that promote the development and well-being of our community. It was built by listening to the people, because that is the only way to build the city we want,” said Cecilia Patrón Laviada.
Accompanied by Jorge Euan Góngora, General Director of Grupo Sadasi Yucatán, the mayor acknowledged the private sector’s participation in this project, which was built by the group and subsequently handed over to the Mérida City Council, with an investment of 7,751,129 pesos.
The “Los Héroes VI” Recreational Park features parking for cars and bicycles, a covered coworking area, a pet area, outdoor exercise equipment, a children’s playground, a multi-purpose court, a jogging track, benches, pedestrian walkways, a plaza, green areas, lighting, and trash cans, establishing itself as a comprehensive space for community interaction and social well-being.
The Mayor emphasized that this park is part of the Smart Government strategy, which already includes 291 free internet access points in Mérida, including public transportation stops, municipal markets, and outlying communities, where the installation of fiber optic cable has improved connection speeds up to five times.
She also highlighted the positive impact of the connectivity program in areas of the city’s south, north, and west, strengthening digital inclusion, the local economy, and citizen services.
Federal and state representatives, members of the City Council, as well as directors and coordinators from the Mérida City Hall, attended the event and witnessed the opening of this space, which promotes a more just, modern, and connected city.
In closing, Cecilia Patrón Laviada called on citizens to care for and enjoy this park, reiterating her commitment to continue promoting projects that generate opportunities and improve the quality of life for the residents of Mérida.
