Deficient health services in Yucatán

The crisis facing the health sector in Yucatán is the responsibility of administrative centralism, which limits the operation of clinics and hospitals in the state.

Despite having highly trained and committed medical personnel, the lack of federal support has led to shortages of basic supplies, directly affecting patient care.

Given this situation, Representative Gaspar Quintal Parra emphasized that “In Yucatán, we have well-prepared and dedicated doctors, but they work in hospitals without the necessary resources. We cannot continue to pay the price for a centralism that ignores local needs.”

He stressed that health should not be reduced to political rhetoric, but rather reflected in concrete results, such as the supply of medications and timely care in clinics and hospitals. In this regard, he proposed three immediate demands to improve the state’s health system.

The first is the need to guarantee dignified care, with humane treatment and reasonable waiting times; The second is ensuring a constant supply of essential medicines at all levels of care, and finally, having a functional system with adequate infrastructure that responds to current demand and is not overwhelmed by bureaucracy.

“The health of Yucatecan families cannot wait. We demand a system that truly works and dignified care for our people,” he concluded.

The state of the health system is viewed critically by residents who make these same demands every day when they go for medicine, a medical appointment, or to receive care in the various departments of Yucatán’s hospitals.
