The state leadership of the PRD (Party of the Democratic Revolution) asserted that Morena (National Regeneration Movement) “made a fool of itself” by failing to gather even three thousand people during the rally held in “support” of Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum.
In his speech, PRD leader Rafael Acosta León ironically referred to the so-called “mega rally” of Morena supporters in the Plaza de la Revolución (Revolution Square).
“Today, at an event they intended to be a mega-rally with more than 20,000 attendees, the people of Tabasco turned their backs on them, leaving them looking ridiculous. They didn’t even manage to gather 3,000 people in the Plaza de la Revolución, yet they squandered more than 50 million pesos hiring 400 buses that arrived empty or half-empty and had to be canceled. They also had to pay people to attend. They even tried to force some participants from the Sembrando Vida program to come, but many refused. And it’s good that people are finally seeing the light. It’s good that people are taking the bait instead of the hook.”
Acosta León accused the Morena party of using mostly government officials and trusted employees who were allegedly forced to attend, as well as some beneficiaries of social programs who, he claimed, were intimidated.
“Today the people of Tabasco gave them a lesson. They were boasting, shouting that they were going to have more than 20,000 people in the Plaza de la Revolución, and we said that was impossible. Not even in Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s best days did 20,000 people gather in the Plaza de la Revolución. Even less so now with these thugs who misgovern Tabasco. They weren’t going to gather there, but they tried to block us, they didn’t succeed. Here was our event. Our event wasn’t massive; it was a logistical event where we swore in the approximately 1,200 grassroots committees that we have in each election session and that we renew. -How did they try to block you? – They canceled several buses, they forced the transportation companies not to rent us buses. We had to travel in small vehicles, in vans, but in the end we managed to overcome that obstacle they tried to impose on us. The people organized themselves; the people are very resourceful. When they make up their minds, there’s no power on earth that can stop them,” he concluded.
