The closure of Francisco Medina Ascencio and Prisciliano Sánchez avenues caused an increase of up to double and triple in transportation costs.
The demonstration and blockade of Francisco Medina Ascencio and Prisciliano Sánchez avenues, which began on Friday around 9:00 a.m. and continues this Saturday for more than 28 hours, has generated a severe impact on urban mobility and tourist activity in the destination, while the only beneficiaries have been taxi drivers and drivers of digital platforms. who have increased their rates excessively.
According to a price survey carried out in the affected areas, the trip from the hotel strip near the blockade, at the height of Puerto Mágico, to the Puerto Vallarta International Airport is being charged at least 500 pesos, when under normal conditions the cost is around 250 pesos.
This situation has forced numerous national and foreign tourists to walk with their suitcases under the sun to points further away from the blockade, such as the former La Paloma bullring, with the intention of getting lower rates or being able to access a transport service.
“We ordered an Uber and the price was exaggerated, more than 500 pesos for a short trip. We have no alternative because the blockade leaves us trapped,” said Sarah M., a Canadian tourist who visited the destination for a week. Everything was going well, he said, so far.
Another visitor, Luis Hernández, from Mexico City, lamented that “Uber is normally an accessible option, but now it is the same or more expensive than taxis. It is a very negative experience for those of us who come on vacation.”
The abuses are not limited to the hotel zone. Users have reported fares of 300 pesos from Pitillal to Galerías, 350 pesos from Versalles to Marina Vallarta, and up to 600 pesos from Downtown to the Airport, amounts considered excessive for relatively short urban journeys.
