The president of the Morena Party in San Luis Potosí, Rita Ozalia Rodríguez Velázquez, admitted that insecurity continues to be the main challenge for the Fourth Transformation, despite the more than seven years the movement has been in power in Mexico.
The leader of the Morena party pointed out that, although the problem has not been eradicated, significant progress has been made in security, particularly in the reduction of homicides.
Rodríguez Velázquez acknowledged that the issue of violence is “difficult” and persists nationwide. However, she stressed that we must be aware that it is not a phenomenon that can be resolved immediately.
“We have to be aware that it hasn’t been completely eradicated, but the work that has been done has been very important; homicides have decreased, although they still exist,” the Morena state leader stated.
Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez, sister of the Secretary of the Interior, emphasized that, unlike past administrations, the government now provides daily updates on security matters in the country, which she considered an exercise in transparency.
She added that, although insecurity remains a challenge, organized crime has been weakened by “cutting off many of its tentacles.” Finally, she expressed confidence that President Claudia Sheinbaum, along with her security cabinet and the Armed Forces, are maintaining a professional approach aimed at achieving a safer Mexico.
Context: On January 28, the assault on personnel from the Center for the Production of News and Special Programs (Cepropie), responsible for documenting and broadcasting the activities of the Presidency of the Republic, reignited concerns about insecurity in San Luis Potosí. The team was traveling to Tamaulipas to cover a tour by President Claudia Sheinbaum when they were intercepted on Federal Highway 57, one of the busiest and most dangerous roads in the country.
Although authorities did not officially specify what items were stolen, unofficial reports indicated that the assailants took video and photographic equipment. Fortunately, the personnel were not injured. The incident occurred on January 28 on a stretch of highway connecting Querétaro with the northern border, an area where truckers and motorists have frequently reported armed robberies.
This incident adds to a climate of persistent insecurity in San Luis Potosí, particularly on highways and strategic routes, where assaults have become commonplace. Despite operations and official calls to reinforce security, criminal acts continue to affect both civilians and institutional personnel, highlighting the ongoing security challenges in the state.
