A family has disappeared in the municipality of Petatlán, on the Costa Grande of Guerrero.
It consists of a father, a mother, and their two daughters. The family was last seen on January 31st in Petatlán.
Very little is known about the family and their disappearance. Neither the Guerrero state government, nor the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), nor the family members have released any information. The Guerrero State Commission for Missing Persons has also not issued any missing persons alerts for the family.
There are two versions of the disappearance. The two are very different. The first is that the family, originally from Querétaro, arrived in Petatlán on Saturday, January 31st, to vacation during the long weekend. They settled in and then disappeared.
The second is that the family is originally from Puebla and had been living for at least three months in the community of Papanoa, in the municipality of Tecpan, which borders Petatlán. The father had set up a mechanic shop and, thanks to his good service, had earned the goodwill of the locals.
Neither version has been confirmed. The only confirmed fact is the disappearance.
On Monday morning, residents of the communities of Coyuquilla Norte and Coyuquilla Sur, in Petatlán, and those from the towns of Santa Rosa de Lima and Papanoa, in Tecpan, organized a search for the family. Soldiers from the Army and the National Guard later joined the search.
The residents of these four communities were alerted because on Saturday night, the body of a woman was found on the beach in the community of Coyuquilla Sur. According to the residents, she appeared to be between 35 and 40 years old.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the woman had not been identified, nor had it been confirmed that she was part of the missing family. The only thing known, according to the residents, is that the woman was not from the area.

Following this discovery, the community leaders of Coyuquilla Sur, Coyuquilla Norte, Santa Rosa de Lima, and Papanoa called on residents to search for the family.
On Monday, residents searched for the family along the beach, in mango and coconut groves, and in the higher elevations of the communities. During the search, near a drainage ditch, they found the decomposing body of a man.
The location of this discovery is very close to the beach where the woman’s body was found Saturday night.
Like the woman’s body found Saturday night, this latest body has not yet been identified, nor has it been confirmed whether it belongs to the missing family.
