The governor of Durango, Esteban Villegas, announced a new regulation for the use of tinted windows on vehicles circulating in the state. The main objective of these measures is to enhance safety by preventing vehicles from being so poorly tinted that it is impossible to see inside.

According to the regulations, different guidelines have been defined for tinted windows, including the types of tint that will be permitted.

Those that are simple and allow normal visibility into the car, commonly used to protect the interior from the sun, will be allowed.

There are exceptions for individuals who require tinted windows for medical reasons. In these cases, the regulation will be respected as long as the driver presents a medical certificate attesting to a health problem or skin condition.

What type of tint will be prohibited in Durango?

Black tint that completely obstructs visibility into the vehicle.

“There are very simple window tints that protect the interior of the vehicle from the sun, allowing you to see inside. But black tint, where you can’t see anything inside, ‘they’re hiding something.’ I don’t even have that kind of tint on my vehicles because I’m the one who has to set an example, that we’re going after the tint itself, not the security issue. I think people can understand, and the last thing we want is to create conflict,” the governor stated.

According to Governor Esteban Villegas, the entire month of February will be granted as a grace period for citizens to catch up on payments for new license plates and to remove prohibited window tint. This includes those who had previous injunctions that have already expired regarding the license plate replacement.

Starting in March, a “very firm hand” will be used in operations to penalize any vehicle in Durango that does not have license plates or that has tinted windows that do not comply with regulations.

As part of prevention and surveillance efforts in the capital city, Operation Dragon removed 150 tinted windows from vehicles that obstructed visibility into the interior on Thursday, January 29, Friday, January 30, and Saturday, January 31. According to the Public Security Secretariat, State Police officers set up several checkpoints throughout the city, where drivers were asked to remove the tint themselves, as it did not comply with current safety regulations.

Se destacó que Salud Municipal de Gómez Palacio es la única autorizada para entregar este permiso.
