Not only Madrid; now Guanajuato is aiming for a direct flight to Colombia. This was reported in an interview with MILENIO by María Guadalupe Robles León, Guanajuato’s Secretary of Tourism and Identity, who indicated that Medellín or Bogotá are being considered as possible destinations.
She emphasized that Colombian visitors are the third most important market for the state and announced that in 15 days she will travel to the most important tourism fair in Latin America, held in Bogotá, Colombia, where she already has meetings scheduled to begin negotiations with airlines and the Colombian Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies.
On the morning of Friday, February 6, Gerardo Arredondo, former candidate for mayor of Salamanca, was kidnapped.
“In Colombia, at ANATO, I will meet again with airlines—Volaris, Viva Aerobus, and Aeroméxico—to continue negotiating with them the possibility of opening a flight to either Bogotá, Medellín, or another city they deem feasible. We are not ruling anything out, but I believe the Colombian market is ready for a direct flight,” she said.
The Secretary of Tourism emphasized that the direct flight to Madrid opens up a range of possibilities, positioning Guanajuato on the international stage as a competitive state with the necessary infrastructure to support direct air routes.
“Spain is our second most important market; the first is the United States. The international market represents 13.1 percent of our total visitors. The United States is number one, Spain contributes 201,200 visitors, and Colombia, in 2024 alone, brought us 198,136 visitors,” she pointed out.
Authorities announced the suspension of the issuance of the Pink Card; HERE are the dates.
He explained that the fact that Colombians consider visiting the cradle of Mexican Independence and the land of José Alfredo Jiménez a “dream” gives Guanajuato a unique competitive advantage.
“Colombians not only adore historical and traditional Guanajuato; they really like José Alfredo Jiménez and know his songs. Being in Dolores Hidalgo is a dream for them, and I think that this year, which is José Alfredo’s birthday and we celebrate his centennial, there will be many opportunities to close deals with tour operators and bring them here,” he noted.
Robles León mentioned that adding a direct connection with South America would diversify the economic impact, benefiting not only leisure tourism but also the business and convention tourism that flows constantly between the two countries.
