After 1,234,000 undocumented migrants were apprehended in Mexico during 2024, 628,000 of whom were detained in Tabasco, the figures for 2025 were 155,730 and 78,311, respectively. This represents an 88 percent drop at both the national and state levels during the first year of Donald Trump’s presidency in the United States.
According to data published by the National Migration Institute (INM), 628,189 foreign nationals who entered the country irregularly were apprehended in Tabasco during 2024, while by the end of 2025, the number of apprehensions had reached 78,311 across 11 municipalities in the state, representing an 88 percent reduction.
This reduction coincides with the arrival of Donald Trump to the presidency of the United States, who tightened immigration policies and expelled thousands of foreigners in the last 12 months. Despite this reduction, Tabasco remained in first place nationally in 2025 for migrant apprehensions, surpassing other states like Chiapas, which in previous years had registered the highest number of apprehensions.
Likewise, the municipality of Centro, which registered 26,443 foreigners detained in 2025, ranks as the municipality with the most migrant apprehensions nationwide, followed by Huimanguillo with 12,866, and Macuspana with 12,885 apprehensions.
The decrease in the number of migrants apprehended in Tabasco reflects what is happening throughout the country. Information published by the national migration agency reveals that 1,234,000 foreigners who entered Mexico without complying with legal requirements were apprehended in 2024. This figure fell to 155,730 in 2025, representing a reduction of nearly 88 percent.
With Donald Trump’s arrival to the presidency of the neighboring country, the departure of thousands of foreigners began, both voluntarily and involuntarily. The U.S. government sought to reach an annual goal of one million deportations, a figure that exceeded two and a half million in 2025, according to U.S. authorities.
In Mexico, and particularly in Tabasco, this immigration policy has led to a decrease in the number of migrants crossing the country in search of the so-called American Dream and, consequently, a drop in apprehensions.
