The detainees, identified as Jorge Armando Ramírez López, Julio César Pazos Padilla, José García Rodríguez, Ricardo Rodríguez López, and Gerardo Marcial Hernández, were transporting more than 4,700 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride. The suspects were located at sea, between Cabo San Lucas and Clarion Island, where federal authorities seized 188 packages of the substance.

The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) is currently charging them with drug trafficking.

In a separate operation, Pedro Natanael Pérez Castro was formally charged for his alleged involvement in the transport of liquid methamphetamine hydrochloride. He was arrested by Army and National Guard personnel at the “El Ajusco” military checkpoint, located on the transpeninsular highway between San Quintín and Ensenada, Baja California.

Pérez Castro was driving a tractor-trailer in which 12 drums containing a total of 699,976 liters of the drug were found. As a result, he was ordered to be held in pretrial detention at the Ensenada prison, and a four-month period was set for further investigation.

Cocaine hydrochloride: This is the acidic, water-soluble salt form of cocaine, derived from the coca plant and commonly known as powder cocaine.
