As part of its commitment to the preservation of the sea turtle, the municipal government headed by Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde, signed a collaboration agreement with the Mexican Institute for Research in Fisheries and Sustainable Agriculture (IMIPAS), to work on the conservation and research of this emblematic species for the islanders.
According to the statement, through this collaboration, the municipal government and IMIPAS will work hand in hand, promoting and encouraging greater community participation in the preservation and conservation of sea turtles and other species such as manta rays, sea cucumbers and ecosystems such as seagrasses, through innovative practices that also include vulnerable groups.
This agreement also contemplates training the fishing sector for the implementation of sustainable aquaculture, in which women, young people and people with disabilities can participate in the responsible use of resources, through the breeding of species such as oysters, tilapia and pink shrimp.
For the island mayor, it is of utmost importance to continue being a municipality that stands out for its care for the environment, the conservation of marine species and the promotion of the economic development of the community, but with sustainable and sustainable practices, prioritizing the care of the environment and its marine species.
