Marx Arriaga was removed from his position as Director General of Educational Materials at the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) with the support of Mexico City police officers.
On social media, Arriaga denounced the lack of grounds for his dismissal, stating that his only crime was “wanting better education” in Mexico.
After being evicted from his office with the assistance of Mexico City police, Arriaga called a press conference at 5:00 p.m. to denounce the SEP’s actions.
According to reports, SEP personnel notified Arriaga that he would be removed from his position, at which point he barricaded himself in his office and refused to leave.
Given Arriaga’s resistance, Mexico City police officers had to be called in to remove him. He even mocked the officers, saying that if he had committed a crime, they should handcuff him.
It’s worth mentioning that Marx Arriaga was the editor of the new free textbooks, which have been criticized for promoting a leftist educational vision and indoctrination, in addition to containing substantial errors.
During his departure from the SEP (Ministry of Public Education) building, located at 1200 Avenida Universidad, Marx Arriaga claimed he was being treated like a criminal, as Mexico City police had to be called in to remove him.
Marx Arriaga stated on social media that the SEP had used violence against him, and he called a press conference for 5:00 p.m. to make a public denouncement.
To date, the SEP has not issued any official statement regarding Marx Arriaga’s dismissal from the agency.
