Mayor Lizette Tapia Castro visited the Adolfo López Mateos Technical Secondary School No. 186, located in the Infonavit El Hujal housing complex, this Thursday to officially launch the construction of a roof over the school’s indoor soccer field. The Zihuatanejo de Azueta government will contribute a significant portion of the funding for the project.

Welcoming the mayor and representatives from the For the Children of Zihuatanejo Foundation, the school’s principal, Marisol Bustamante Ube, expressed her gratitude that the request for support for the roofing of the sports facility was being addressed with concrete actions, stating that it “will bring many benefits to our school community.”

The second speaker at the groundbreaking ceremony was student Kendtra del Castillo Osorio, who emphasized: “I want to express my sincere gratitude to the municipal government for its invaluable support in finally making the roofing of our indoor soccer field a reality. Their commitment to education and the well-being of students is truly inspiring.” She also expressed her appreciation and gratitude to the civil association Por los Niños de Zihuatanejo (For the Children of Zihuatanejo), led by Carol Romain, for their help in improving the schools in this municipality.

At the beginning of her remarks, Mayor Tapia Castro began by acknowledging the work that all the teachers at the school have been doing over the years. “I know about the efforts and struggles you have made for your educational institution; I have been somewhat familiar with what you have accomplished,” she told them.

She reaffirmed the commitment of the City Council, which she leads, to support educational institutions. “We have agreed to allocate funds in the budget to partner with the For the Children of Zihuatanejo Foundation and make this a reality—something that was once a dream for many of you.”

He also expressed his gratitude to those who, as part of the For the Children of Zihuatanejo Foundation, now headed by Carlos Romain, have worked for the past 25 years to improve the conditions of educational institutions—people from the United States and Canada, “who love this place.”
