The celebration of Valentine’s Day, also known as Love and Friendship Day in Mexico, is projected to generate an economic impact of 61.604 billion pesos this year, according to estimates from the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Concanaco Servytur).

The organization detailed its calculations to EFE, noting that these revenues represent an 11.4% increase compared to the previous year, driven by the sustained growth of e-commerce and the preference for personalized gifts and experiences.

Merchants and service providers throughout Mexico expect Valentine’s Day sales to be primarily seen in restaurants, gift shops, flower shops, jewelry stores, hotels, and online platforms. According to data compiled by EFE, the average expenditure per person is expected to be around $128 USD (approximately 2,200 Mexican pesos).

The president of Concanaco Servytur, Héctor Tejada Shaar, explained to EFE that most of the economic impact is concentrated in large cities, although small and medium-sized businesses also anticipate an increase in their revenue.

The leader indicated that consumers have shown greater interest in experiences such as dinners, short trips, and recreational activities, in addition to traditional gifts.

The upward trend in digital consumption stands out in the forecasts for Valentine’s Day 2026. According to reports cited by EFE, e-commerce participation has grown by more than 20% compared to last year, facilitating the purchase of flowers, chocolates, perfumes, and electronic devices through online platforms.

The Concanaco Servytur report emphasizes that the commercial activity associated with the date generates benefits for various sectors, from agricultural production to the hotel industry. Many businesses have launched promotions and special offers to attract the attention of those planning to celebrate February 14th.

The economic impact of Valentine’s Day extends to home delivery services, private transportation, and entertainment, reflecting the diversification of options for celebrating the occasion. Figures released by the business chamber suggest a positive environment for the service sector in Mexico during the first half of February.

The Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) implemented a special operation for Valentine’s Day 2026 to monitor businesses and prevent price gouging or inflated prices on products and services related to the celebration.

Inspectors reviewed flower shops, restaurants, gift shops, and online platforms in various parts of the country.

The operation included price monitoring, verification of promotions, and addressing consumer complaints. Profeco also established reporting and guidance channels for those who detect irregularities during purchases on February 14th.

Authorities reiterated their commitment to protecting consumer rights and penalizing unfair business practices.
