2026 Drills: An alert will sound on cell phones in Nuevo León on this day

The National Civil Protection Coordination announced the schedule for the three drills (two national) planned for 2026.

Specifically, the two national drills will have an impact on the state of Nuevo León, as an alert will sound on citizens’ cell phones.

It is important to keep this in mind so as not to be caught off guard on the day of this survival exercise.

There will be three drills in total; however, two of them will be national. Only one will involve the central region of the country.

Regional Drill for Mexico City, State of Mexico, Oaxaca, Guerrero, Puebla, Colima, and Michoacán: February 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.

First National Drill: Wednesday, May 6, at 11:00 a.m. (Central Mexico Time). This date will coincide with the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the National Civil Protection System. Second National Earthquake Drill, Saturday, September 19 at 11:00 a.m. (Central Mexico Time). Holding it on a weekend will allow for testing the response capacity of the population and Mexican government institutions in a context different from the usual workday.
There will be changes to the alarms.
It is expected that these three alarms will have significant changes in terms of volume and the message that will appear on people’s cell phones during the drill.

This was announced by Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum, who stated that the Digital Transformation and Telecommunications Agency (ATDT) is the entity responsible for making the necessary adjustments.

The main objective of the earthquake drills is to train people’s muscle and mental memory so that, in a real emergency, vital seconds are not lost thinking about what to do.

Under the stress of a real earthquake, the brain can enter a state of shock or panic.

This is why drills help make the steps (evacuate, retreat, go to the assembly point) second nature.

Drills are also valuable for security personnel or emergency response team members, who can practice their roles in this way.
