Armed attack in Oaxaca: CTM leader and two others arrested

An armed attack occurred Sunday morning at the intersection of Bustamante Street and the Periférico ring road in Oaxaca City. A vehicle and three people were detained, including René Balderas, leader of the Confederation of Mexican Workers (CTM).

The attack took place at 8:31 a.m. yesterday, according to the state government. State and municipal police officers arrived at the scene after receiving a report of the attack. A black Chevrolet Tahoe SUV with tinted windows and no license plates was found at the location.

The vehicle had bullet holes in the driver’s side door. René López Balderas, the current leader of the CTM, was at the scene and was driving the vehicle. He was taken into custody for questioning and to provide a statement to the authorities regarding the incident. The identities of the other two detainees are unknown.

As of 4:00 p.m. Sunday, the Oaxaca State Attorney General’s Office had not released any information about the incident.
