Two cloned patrol vehicles linked to criminal activity have been detected in the municipality of Tijuana, Baja California, reported General Laureano Carrillo Rodríguez, head of the Baja California Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSCBC).
The official made this statement to the press on Wednesday, February 18, after concluding his participation in the morning press conference of Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, and following up on the case of the doctors robbed at their home on February 4, where men in what appeared to be uniforms were present, including a vehicle attributed to the National Guard (GN).
This case is currently under investigation by the Attorney General’s Office (FGR).
For his part, Carrillo Rodríguez confirmed that they have indeed detected these types of vehicles, but referring to the State Security Forces (FESC).
“I can tell you that, through the State Police, we have detected cloned patrol vehicles. We have two cases. We are talking about two cases detected with individuals and patrol vehicles that, unfortunately, have been cloned,” he said.
The secretary stated that these cases have occurred in the last five years and that there were no indications of such cases before then.
Although he mentioned the case of the state police force, he later added that they have also detected it at the municipal level, in the city of Tijuana, and that it has occurred in neighborhoods such as Chapultepec and Hipódromo, known as high-value areas in this border city.
Regarding the National Guard, he assured that they are continuing their investigation and that “there will be no impunity,” while noting that more than 3,500 agents are deployed.
“And their participation has been crucial in reducing homicides and crime. Even in reducing migration to the United States. Last year there was a 92 percent reduction in encounters with migrants, precisely through this deployment,” stated General Laureano Carrillo Rodríguez.
