Two men caught red-handed extorting merchants in Mazatlán; 100,000 pesos in cash seized from them

Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch reported this Thursday that two men were arrested in Mazatlán for extortion.

According to the official, the men were part of a criminal cell that extorts merchants at the wholesale market in this Sinaloa municipality.

The men threatened their victims and forced them to sign promissory notes and falsified documents establishing periodic payments in exchange for protection.

The Security Cabinet specified that, in addition to the arrests, 100,000 pesos in cash, doses of drugs, and cell phones were also seized.

Authorities stated that the two men, whose identities were not released, were caught in the act of receiving extortion payments.

The two men were turned over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office to determine their legal status and continue the investigation.

The operation involved the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) and the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), along with the Secretariat of National Defense (Defensa), the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar) and the National Guard (GN).
