The Security Cabinet activated a regional operation following the violence in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec and deployed more than 500 state and federal agents in 10 municipalities considered strategic.

The coordination session was permanently established at the Command, Control, Communications, Coordination, and Intelligence Center (C5i), with the participation of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, the Oaxaca State Attorney General’s Office, and the Secretariat of Government, in conjunction with the National Guard, the Secretariat of National Defense, and the Secretariat of the Navy.

As part of the territorial security measures, security checkpoints and inspection points were established to prevent criminal activity, protect public and private infrastructure, and guarantee free movement in the region.

Simultaneously, federal aircraft are conducting reconnaissance flights, while the Secretariat of the Navy has reinforced its operational presence in port areas and other areas under its jurisdiction.

Preventive surveillance was also implemented in shopping centers, terminals, toll booths, and high-traffic areas to protect economic activity and the property of the population.

Investigative units continue compiling the corresponding case files. Authorities reported that there are ongoing lines of inquiry to identify those responsible.

The Security Cabinet urged citizens to stay informed only through official channels and indicated that the deployment will remain in place as long as necessary to maintain order in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.

The statement does not provide an official tally of the violent events in Oaxaca.

So far, with the preliminary count, nine vehicles have been burned in the Isthmus:

Five vehicles in Juchitán: an OMISA truck, an Istmeño bus, and three private vehicles. In addition, a taxi was attacked, and its driver was injured when he refused to hand over the vehicle.

Two tractor-trailers caught fire in Mazahua, on the Trans-Isthmus Highway.

One OMISA bus in El Espinal.

One taxi in San Blas Atempa. One of the patron saint festivals scheduled for this Sunday was suspended in this community.

Two vehicles were prevented from catching fire thanks to the immediate intervention of their owners, one in Tehuantepec and the other in Juchitán.
