A series of attacks against businesses and vehicles were reported Sunday morning in Tulum, prompting a large-scale mobilization of emergency services and security forces, and generating concern among residents and the business sector.

In the La Veleta neighborhood, unknown individuals set fire to an Oxxo convenience store, forcing the immediate intervention of Civil Protection, Fire Department, Municipal Police, and State Police personnel to extinguish the flames and secure the perimeter. During the investigation, armed law enforcement agents entered the building following a citizen report of two hooded and allegedly armed individuals; however, they were no longer present at the time of the inspection.

Simultaneously, in the Ejido neighborhood, an attempted arson was reported at another Oxxo store, where flammable liquids were allegedly thrown with the intention of starting a fire. It was not confirmed whether the building sustained significant damage.

A car was also set on fire near the fire station in Tulum, prompting an increased mobilization of emergency and security units in various parts of the municipality.

Personnel from the Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office went to the affected locations to open the corresponding investigations and gather evidence to clarify the events.

Almost simultaneously, similar incidents were reported in other municipalities in the state. In Playa del Carmen, around 10:30 a.m., two vehicles were set on fire in the Centro Maya area, causing alarm among merchants and visitors. Meanwhile, in Cozumel, a Bodega Aurrera store caught fire, which was extinguished by local firefighters.

To date, authorities have not confirmed whether the incidents are related or if they stem from the same cause. No arrests have been officially reported.

Surveillance and search operations are ongoing in various parts of Quintana Roo to locate those responsible and prevent further acts of violence. The situation has generated concern among residents and business owners, who are requesting the strengthening of security strategies in light of the events that occurred this weekend.
