In response to recent acts of violence in various regions of the country, the state of Querétaro has implemented security operations along its borders with San Luis Potosí, Guanajuato, and Michoacán, establishing security checkpoints.
The State Police announced that surveillance has been reinforced in the areas bordering these states, with the goal of preventing and deterring crime within Querétaro.
“We are maintaining patrols and observation points in various municipalities throughout Querétaro to ensure the safety of families,” they stated.
Some of the checkpoints are located near the Celaya toll road, the Apaseo El Alto free road in Guanajuato, the border with San Luis Potosí north of the Sierra Gorda, and in Amealco on the border with Michoacán.
The security checkpoints are staffed by municipal and state police officers; additionally, security has been reinforced with federal law enforcement agencies.
In a historic blow to drug trafficking structures in Mexico, federal forces killed Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, better known as “El Mencho,” founder and leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), on Sunday, February 22.
The news was confirmed by high-ranking officials to TELEDIARIO and Grupo Milenio, who indicated that the death occurred during a strategic operation led by the Mexican Army.
From the early hours of Sunday, an intense security deployment was reported in the municipality of Talpa de Allende, Jalisco. This region, identified as one of Oseguera Cervantes’ strongholds and areas of greatest influence, was the scene of the confrontation where the country’s most wanted drug lord finally fell.
After the death of the criminal leader was confirmed, the reaction from criminal groups was immediate. Roadblocks and disturbances were reported in at least six states across the country.
